Modern sandals can look good and be extremely comfortable,
for example the manufacturer Josef Seibel produces sandals and shoes
which are renowned across Europe for their comfort, products such
as Josef
Seibel Almond Sandals are also produced with an awareness of
the impact of manufacturing on the environment.
In the cooler climates of Northern Europe and North
America lightweight shoes are also popular which comprise of a rubber
sole with a canvas upper, the most well known of these shoes are
the Converse All-Star Basketball
shoes, an instantly recognisable item of footwear. In more recent
years other designer labels have produced their own lightweight
shoes often with a more formal design to the sports shoes produced
by Converse. An alternative to the canvas upper is a punched-leather
upper, providing a shoe which is cooler than a standard leather
shoe and one which has the same principles of sandals. One example
of these punched-leather shoes are the Firetrap
Marti Leather Shoe, a stylish piece of footwear which is cool
enough to wear in the warmer seasons. The shoe has evolved greatly
to encompass many different styles but as shown the light-weight
and practical aspects of the sandal have remained a desirable characteristic
in modern shoe design.
